Expresssions of Love started out as a challenge given from a local art group I belong to. We were provided a photograph from the 1800s, more specifically, Cupid Awake, by photographer, M.B. Parkinson. The photograph is no longer under copyright. It was the bust of a small child, in sepea, holding a bow and arrow. The only emphasis of color was the cheeks of the child's face. In my acrylic and water color marker painting on canvas, I drew an entire body for my child, draped in cloth, with fiery wings, as her facial expression is a bit devilish. I did give her a halo, to balance it out. I decided to add items of devotion to my husband. It included a love letter, written with a quill pen, from ink in a an ink well, a set of wedding rings, a red rose, as well as other flowers. I also included lace, as it seemed to be fitting for the setting. Lastly, I decided to add a blue sky with fluffy clouds, to make my cherub look like they are levitating.
