Moon Swallow
This painting was a culmination of a lot of things. For one, I ordered some gold acrylic paste which comes out thick out of a squeeze bottle. It is supposed to make the lines look 3D, and I have very mixed feelings on this, because in the end, the lines I created kind of deflated. I am not disappointed in how this piece came out, just how the paint performed. The second thing is that I love birds, and swallows are one of my favorites. I love how they fly and how they are depicted in lots of art pieces throughout cultures and history. And, lastly, I recently started using paint markers and drawing a lot of flowers, so I used them in this piece to draw the same. This is acrylic paint and paint markers on canvas. I feel the over all vibe I get is Art Deco with religious undertones. I am not religious at all, but It kind of ended up with a cross, and the gold really reminds me of biblical depictions. I have ideas of a piece- a glimmer. And yet, I never know how it will end up till after channeling my Art Witch. She is my internal creative side; my artistic compass. She comes out when I zone out of the harsh realities of life to conjure my inner most subconscious feelings to the surface. I very rarely have a plan because I know she is with me and she knows what to do. She guides me through my work, and it comes out the way she envisions it. I am just the conduit. I travel from piece to piece and only learn how something will look when it is nearly done. It is vastly different from doing graphic design, where I use my listening skills to bring the ideas and requests from someone who has specific thoughts and desires to achieve their marketing goals. Designing requires me to be present. Creating art allows me to escape. The Art Witch comes out only when I let her. She is raw, pure, and uninhibited.
