Poppies & Ranunculus
This is another floral painting created in paint maker with highlights in acrylic paint. I am an avid gardener, and I try to find combinations of flowers for my bouquets that will compliment one another well.
For the video, there is a frame where it shows my sofa covered in dog hair with the art sitting on it. I shamelessly own dogs (and cats), and I like to create work while watching Netflix with my husband. I vacuum regularly, but did not do this when I took the photo for the video. My husband recently bought me a French floor easel, so I will be transitioning to using that once I select a comfy chair. But, for now, you see the pet hair. Focus your eyes on my art, and the creative process that it took to create my painting. Have you ever tried to create art with one hand, while having a cat in your lap that demands to be pet, or a dog that will literally smack you with a paw if you stop petting them? That alone is a talent, in and of itself.
Anywho... my color for this Spring is gold. I have repeatedly used gold in my work. I wanted a real contrast in style and periods in this piece, and I think it does work. And I created the lace by studying various vintage and antique lace pieces online and in books, and in my personal collection, and borrow patterns and remix them to create my own lace pattern. I can feel the way the marker wants to move in my hand and as long as the corresponding design is identical when it mirrors, and they flow smoothly, in the end, my lace creation is born. I also learned that by using pointillism, I can make a meshy look or a implied white solid background for my details. From far away, I can fool the eye into thinking I superimposed my work in Photoshop over a doily. But, close up, you can tell it is just another part of the complexity of my art.
